Liberty’s Lasting Legacy
Liberty Harakas left an unfading mark both as an engaged, forward-thinking leader within the Old City Quarter Association and as the creative force behind Lobelia’s Lair.
She first joined the OCQA board back in 2004 as the Vice President, and for many years, serving both as Vice President and as Secretary. She retained these roles until 2018, when she became President.
Liberty had a great appreciation for our historic district, with its architecture, stories, and its future. She was great at spearheading many projects in the area while respecting the area’s heritage. She loved planning festivals for the OCQ, especially ones for Halloween and the winter solstice, and anything that involved music.
She was such a diplomatic person with everyone that she dealt with. She was always sharing her wealth of knowledge with any new business that approached her, and always wanted to ensure small businesses succeeded.
Her love of her store, Lobelia’s Lair, was obvious. It was not just a place to shop, but a place where people connected and celebrated.
We are very happy that Dana Gray purchased the store and has continued with the name, Lobelia’s Lair. Liberty will always be remembered as an integral part of the neighbourhood.
