The Conservatory offers instruction in a wide variety of instruments and voice by highly qualified, experienced teachers. There are no admission requirements to the Conservatory programs; students of all levels are admitted. Students may take Royal Conservatory examinations and are encouraged to join one of the groups or orchestras to enhance their ability to play with their peers. Groups include the Wind Ensemble, Flute Ensemble, Fiddle Ensemble, Guitar Ensemble, the Nanaimo Conservatory String Orchestra, the Conservatory Foundation Orchestra and the Conservatory Children's Orchestra for younger string players. Many students compete in the annual Upper Island Music Festival. The Conservatory supports an adult chamber choir and their choirs for children from ages 6 to 18 under the Nanaimo Youth Choir banner. The Conservatory also offers a Suzuki program for piano and for violin in which students as young as 3 1/2 years are experiencing the joy of making music.
