Join the Old City Quarter businesses and services to celebrate the season of giving and enter to win an Old City Quarter gift basket.
The Old City Quarter's “Light up a Life” campaign is organized by the merchants of the Old City Quarter to aid those in need in Nanaimo. This year, we're collecting donations for the The Nanaimo Shoebox Project.
The Shoebox Project for Shelters collects and distributes gifts in the form of Shoeboxes to women who are homeless or at-risk of homelessness in our community. Each thoughtfully created and decorated Shoebox is filled with items valued at $50 that can enhance self-esteem and reduce feelings of isolation for women in crisis. This year's partnering shelters are: The Haven Society, Nanaimo Women's Resource Centre & Samaritan House (Island Crisis Care Society)
Please review the list of suggested new items to donate, or bring a filled Shoebox to Lobelia's Lair Metaphysical Treasures (321 Wesley St #8) or The Teak Tree (437 Fitzwilliam St) and you'll be entered to win an OCQ gift.
Shoeboxes should include items like:
Something special: Giftcards, costume jewelry, accessories
Something cozy: scarves, hats and mittens
Something personal: Full size shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, body wash
Something pretty: Nailpolish, eyeshadows, mascara, makeup bag
Something soothing: Body lotion, sleep mask, cough drops
Something Practical: Bus tickets, hair ties, travel umbrella
Something fun: colouring book, journal, cards, games
Something sweet: nut-free chocolate, gum or candy
Each shoebox should be valued at approximately $50. Please wrap the lid and box of your shoebox separately.
